One-hour guided trail rides will be offered on Wednesdays, Sept. 25 and Oct. 9 and 23, at 5 p.m. at Ironstone Ranch, 1 Hollinger Lane, Elizabethtown. Participants will ride horses through the 275 acres of woods and farmland on the ranch, and there will be no trotting or gallopping on the trails. Horses are trained to work with riders who have little or no experience. All children must be age 8 or older, and there is a strict weight limit of 250 pounds.
GEARS will be holding tryouts and skill evaluations for the 2019-20 Travel Basketball Leagues for all interested girls and boys in fifth and sixth grades. Tryouts will take place in the gym at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown, and participants should use the main school entrance.
Girls' tryouts will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 8 to 9 a.m. and Monday, Sept. 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. Boys' tryouts will be on Sept. 28 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and Sept. 30 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Travel teams will participate in Lancaster/Lebanon League and Central Penn League. The season, including practices, will begin in late October and run through early February. All players selected for the travel team will pay a participation fee after selected.
A lifeguard recertification course, for individuals age 15 and up with a current lifeguarding/first aid/CPR/AED certification, will be offered on Sundays, Sept. 22 and 29, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Patton Pool at Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown. Recertification is for two years. Students must bring a rescue mask.
Teen Safe Driver will be presented by State Farm agent Josh Shoop on Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in GEARS Recreation Room 1, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Parents or caregivers of teenagers who are about to start driving will learn about various opportunities that may help discount the cost of insurance for teenage drivers.
New York City - Value Days will be offered on Saturdays, Nov. 30 and Dec. 21, with a 6:15 a.m. departure time from the parking lot at Elizabethtown Area High School, 600 E. High St. Trip attendees will be able to enjoy the day on their own.
