Downingtown Music Parents Association will host the Cavalcade of Bands marching band competition on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Kottmeyer Stadium at Downingtown West High School, 445 Manor Ave., Downingtown. The gates will open at 4 p.m., and the music will start at approximately 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Approximately one dozen bands will perform to earn regional recognition for excellence in musical performance, marching precision, flag/guard performance, and drumline. In addition to the competition among area high school marching bands, the band from Towson State University will execute its halftime show.
As hosts of the Downingtown Cavalcade of Bands, bands from Downingtown East and West high schools will perform as exhibitors to showcase their 2019 marching band halftime show. There are more than 100 students in each band.
The concession stands will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, snacks, and beverages. The proceeds will support the Music Parents Association (MPA).
The school has hosted the Cavalcade of Bands for years. The community event raises funds for the marching bands and other music programs, such as chorus, orchestra, and band, at East, West, and the Downingtown STEM Academy.
Separate ticket prices have been set for adults, for senior citizens and veterans, and for children under age 10. Tickets will be available at the gate. Elementary and middle school students may attend free of charge with the purchase of an adult ticket using the flyer provided by their music teacher.
