GEARS Sets Schedule

The third annual Mother/Son Fall Ball will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Salon 1 at Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown. The event will have a professional disc jockey, light refreshments, and a photo craft with a professional photo to take home. There will be prizes for various competitions and the Mother/Son Fortnite Dance-Off. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 27. There is a per-couple fee, with an extra fee for additional sons.

GEARS' 23rd annual Two-Person Scramble, sponsored by Dr. Dale Treese, D.D.S., will take place on Oct. 4 at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course, 650 S. Harrisburg St., Harrisburg, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The per-person entry fee includes green fees, use of a cart, a steak dinner, and prizes. Proceeds will benefit GEARS.

GEARS encourages those on Medicare to prepare for the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, which will run from Tuesday, Oct. 15, to Saturday, Dec. 7. During this time period, those enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan can make changes for the following year. On Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., Jonathan Ebersole will teach a class that will focus on best practices on reviewing one's policy along with legislative changes that will affect individuals enrolled in Medicare Supplement Plan F and Plan C. The class will take place in Recreation Room 2 at 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown.

Two tai chi classes will be held in the gym at Rheems Elementary School, 130 Alida St., Rheems, on Tuesdays, Oct. 1 to Dec. 10, with no class on Nov. 12. Introduction to Tai Chi, set for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., will focus on a simple 10-step taiji form to introduce students to the basic postures. Advanced Tai Chi (Forms, Weapons, and San Shou), set for 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., will teach participants how to integrate the postures with new moves, with sword and other weapon forms gradually introduced.

A trip to the Peddler's Village 46th annual Apple Festival in Bucks County will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a 9 a.m. departure from the parking lot at Elizabethtown Area High School, 600 E. High St. The festival will feature apple treats such as apple cider, apple fritters, apple pies, and apple dumplings and cakes. There will be live entertainment, food trucks, and juried artisans.
