Fundraiser To Feature Food, Music And More

Nov 09, 2019 - 6:30 am

To help finance the cost of establishing a transitional housing unit at St. Mary's Franciscan Shelter for Homeless Families in Phoenixville, a "BBQ & Brews" fundraising event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Kimberton Fire Hall, 2276 Kimberton Road, Phoenixville.

The first-time event, open to people age 21 and over, will feature live music, as well as an assortment of beverages and barbecue provided by local restaurants.

Rebel Hill Brewing Company, Sly Fox Brewing Company and Steel City Coffeehouse will provide the beverages. Foresta's Market, Stone House Grille, Uncle B's, Nook and Kranny Kafe, Liberty Union Bar & Grill and Dippydell's Cakery and Chocolates will provide the food and snacks.

Ticket holders will be entitled to three beverages and the food items. "(Some restaurants) will provide the main course barbecue," explained shelter volunteer Christie Milano, a member of the fundraising committee. "The other (restaurants) will donate side dishes - cornbread, mac and cheese (and others). It will be a walk-around casual social event."

Providing music will be The Sofa Kings, a 10-piece band known for its horn section. The band covers a variety of musical styles, including dance music, Motown, rhythm and blues, classic rock and current top hits on the Billboard chart. More information about the band, including samples of its music, is available at http://www.sofakingsgroup.com.

There will be a silent auction and an opportunity to enter a random drawing to win a Yeti cooler on wheels filled with local gift cards. Auction items will include Philadelphia Eagles tickets, grandstand seating for four at the 2020 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, tickets to Longwood Gardens, designer purses and a spa package.

Items will be available for bidding via http://www.bidpal.net. "Even if you don't go to the event, you can sit at home and bid on an item in the silent auction if you want it," Milano said. The silent auction will close between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Winners do not need to be present.

There will also be an opportunity to make financial donations to the shelter directly at the end of the evening through a "paddle raise."
