Applicants For Award Sought

The Junior League of Lancaster (JLL) will accept applications for the 2019 Deborah P. Altman Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award. Named for Deborah P. Altman, past president of JLL, the award recognizes a young person who demonstrates exceptional interest, leadership, and involvement in volunteerism as well as inspires his or her peers to volunteer in their communities. Altman was known for her commitment to volunteering, her love of children, and her service to the community.

All award applications must be received by Monday, March 16, 2020. Winners will be notified by Friday, April 17, 2020, and the award presentation will take place Monday, May 4, 2020.

Applicants must be residents of Lancaster County; be ages 16 to 19 by Friday, Jan. 31, 2020; have completed volunteer work in Lancaster County; and have achieved a minimum of a "C" average during the current and previous academic years. Applicants may not be the son or daughter of a Junior League member.

One high school student will be selected to receive the award, which is a prize of $1,800. The student will be awarded $1,500, and $300 will be designated to a charity of the student's choosing.

Applications will be evaluated based on quality of volunteer work, reference from an adult associated with the student's volunteer work, documented scholastic records, and a properly completed application packet.
