Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will offer support groups in November. Meetings are free and open to the public.
The Living With Loss Support Group will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. Marian Harnish, associate chaplain, will facilitate a discussion on "Grief Through Poetry and Music." Those who have experienced the death of a spouse or family member are invited to attend. The support group is affiliated with the International Essential Tremor Foundation. The Caregiver's Support Group will meet on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The group is co-sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association and Garden Spot Village for family caregivers of those with dementia. Candy Yingling from the Alzheimer's Association will answer questions. Participants are invited to arrive any time after 9:30 a.m. for coffee and casual conversation and are invited to share suggestions.
Upon advance request, free respite care in Adult Day Services is available for individuals who are currently enrolled in Garden Spot Village Adult Day Services. First-time attendees to the support group are asked to contact Marcia Parsons at 717-355-6239 or mparsons@gardenspotvillage.org.
The Low Vision Support Group will meet on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. Jonathan Andrews of Optometric Associates will present information regarding cataracts. The group is designed to provide information and support to enhance independence for those with any kind of visual losses. For more details, readers may call Mary Beth Villafane at 717-355-6010.
The Parkinson's Support Group will meet on Monday, Nov. 25, from 2 to 3 p.m. The meeting will include a focus on "Caring and Coping" and will be facilitated by Judy Shaffer and Garden Spot Village social worker Sherilyn Lapp. This month, following group announcements, caregivers will go to a separate location for a discussion, while people with Parkinson's will stay in the Garden Towers for an informal time of sharing and support. Free resources from the National Parkinson's Foundation will be available. The group is open to all those with Parkinson's and their caregivers, family and friends.
