Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. All activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster, unless stated otherwise. There is a per-person fee for the programs. Munchkin Science: Space will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Naturalist Ann Strauss will lead the session, during which children ages 3 to 5 will learn about space, planets, and the solar system.
A Full Moon Hike, for people of all ages, will take place on Nov. 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Naturalist Lisa J. Sanchez will lead the walk in Central Park, guided by the full moon. Attendees should dress for the weather. Registration and prepayment are required by noon on Friday, Nov. 8.
Pinecone Crafts, for people age 3 and up, will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. Naturalist Ellen Blazer will supply the pinecones, which attendees will use to craft turkeys, owls, other animals, and more using paint, feathers, googly eyes, and other supplies. Each one can be used as a tree ornament or can stand alone.
A Mindfulness Hike, for people age 15 and up, has been set for Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Kinglet Trailhead, near the restrooms by Pavilion 3, 1098 Rockford Road, Lancaster. Building on the tenets of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, naturalist Kristyn Small will lead this walking meditation and guide participants in sensory awareness. The hiking trail is relatively flat and under a half-mile in length.
Homeschool Wednesday: Herbivores, for children ages 8 to 12, has been set for Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Naturalist Mary Ann Schlegel will provide an overview as well as identification hints for individual mammals. Attendees should dress for indoor and outdoor activity.
