Church Installs New Elevator

East Cocalico Church of the Brethren, 4 Bunker Hill Road, Reamstown, recently installed an elevator.

The church was planted by Ephrata Church of the Brethren in March 1991. The building was purchased from another congregation that had closed.

Over the years, the members of the congregation worked to improve the building as they could. When the need for an elevator was first recognized approximately 25 years ago, the church started an elevator fund. Other expenses, concerns, and repairs also delayed the elevator's installation. At the end of 22 years, $23,000 had been raised toward the project.

In the fall of 2017, the congregation started seriously considering getting an elevator. The church worked with a contractor for nine months to identify needs and develop the specifics of the project. During the summer of 2018, the congregation decided to move ahead with the project.

Most of the total price of the project has been raised without drawing from emergency savings. The congregation voted to proceed with the project on Oct. 14, 2018. The elevator and other renovations were scheduled to be dedicated on Nov. 3.
