Robotics Team Earns Honors

The Krypton Cougars, a high school robotics team based in Palmyra, competed at the HAVOC offseason competition at Hatboro-Horsham High School on Oct. 26. Composed of high school students from Palmyra, Hershey, and Northern Lebanon, as well as homeschool students, the Krypton Cougars compete in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC).

After completing the 2019 regular season with a trip to the World's Championship in Detroit in April, the team entered several local offseason competitions to develop new members. To enhance the training process, Team 2539 decided to build a completely different second robot for competition to allow more students to compete, referring to it as Team 9539.

At HAVOC, the two Krypton Cougar robots qualified first and third out of a field of 29 robots. This allowed them both to become captains of their respective three team alliances to compete in playoffs. Both teams continued winning and advancing in the playoffs until their alliances faced off in the best-out-of-three championship round. Team 9539's No. 3 Alliance defeated Team 2539's No. 1 Alliance in two straight matches to earn the winner trophy, with Team 2539 earning the finalist trophy.

After one more offseason competition, Team 2539 will be looking to start the 2020 FRC season with a kickoff party on Saturday, Jan. 4. New members, mentors, and sponsors are encouraged to join Team 2539 and learn about FIRST Robotics.
