Library Posts Schedule

Columbia Public Library, 24 S. Sixth St., Columbia, will host a variety of programs in November and December. Programs are free and open to the public. For more details, readers may call the library at 717-684-2255.

Columbia Public Library has been selected by Giant Food Store in Mount Joy as the beneficiary of its "Bags 4 Our Cause" program in November. For every bag purchased during the month, a donation will be made to the library. For patrons who are unable to shop in Mount Joy, the library can arrange to pick up bags.

Individuals who have interest in joining a book club are wanted. Anyone who is interested should contact Patti at pfischer@columbiapubliclibrary.org.

The Nifty Needles Knitting Club will gather on at 7 p.m. on Thursdays, with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. People of all skill levels are welcome to attend. Attendees should bring scissors and any yarn or knitting needles they have. Instruction will be provided.

Preschool Pals will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, Nov. 18 and 25. The program will include stories and a simple craft. Caregivers must remain with the child during the program.

Crochet Along With Kasey will gather on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will continue the baby blanket project. Handmade crocheted or knitted scarves are also being collected for the Water Street Mission and will be picked up on Friday, Nov. 15.

Family Fun Night will return on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 5:30 p.m. Participants will create a Mason jar candle holder. The project is best suited for children ages 7 to 12, and all children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Space is limited to 20 children, and registration is required. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis only if space is still available.

The Prime Timers will host Storycatchers on Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Apartments. Attendees will learn how to record special life events for future generations to enjoy.

The library will take part in the Extraordinary Give on Friday, Nov. 22. An Extra Give Party will take place at The Gallery at Garth, 22 S. Second St., Columbia, on Nov. 22 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Music will be provided by Tom Pontz. The community is invited to attend. The library will host its Mitten Tree from Monday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Dec. 20. Visitors are asked to bring in a new, unwrapped gift of mittens, gloves, umbrellas, scarves, earmuffs, and hats to place under the tree. All items will be donated to the Columbia Clothing Bank and winter shelters.

Santa Claus will visit the library on Saturday, Nov. 30, between 3 to 5 p.m. Mrs. Claus and Elf Abby will also visit. The parade of the fire trucks will also take place at 2 p.m. from the Manor Street Fire Station.

The Middle School Book Club will meet at 1:50 p.m. at the Columbia High School library on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Attendees will discuss "Shiloh."

"The History of Passenger Travel - Philadelphia to Pittsburgh" will be presented by Juliette O'Conner of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. The program will cover the stagecoach to Amtrak and how passenger travel and its creature comforts have changed over the years.
