September House Posts Schedule

September House, a senior center located at 1251 W. King St., York, has announced its schedule of upcoming activities. On Mondays through Fridays, the senior center serves a free lunch to any York County resident at least 60 years of age. For more information, readers may call 717-848-4417 or stop by the center.

From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, September House will continue with its Bible study on "Experiencing God." This is a member-led program, and everyone is invited to observe or share.

Kilene Knitter, a nutritionist from Giant, will lead a program on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 10:30 a.m. The program will promote healthy eating and lifestyles and will deal with holiday cooking and eating tips and tricks.

On Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 10:30 a.m. will be a planning meeting for the cookie bake on Friday, Dec. 13. Cookies baked will be donated to the Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 14, sponsored by Feed the Vets of York County and with proceeds to benefit a public Christmas dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 25, at September House.

On Friday, Nov. 22, a movie will be shown after lunch. The movie title is to be determined.

September House is also continuing its perpetual calendar craft project, with participants making their own plastic canvas calendar.

Ham radio classes are being offered for free to enthusiasts of all ages. Classes for obtaining a technician's license take place on Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m., with classes for obtaining a general license from 2 to 3 p.m. All of the senior center's radio activities are made possible through an equipment grant from the York County Community Foundation's Embracing Aging Grant program.

Every week, September House offers card clubs, for which new players are sought. Pinochle is played on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m., and 500 bid and canasta are played on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. The bridge club meets every Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Shuffleboard is played on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m., and new players are sought. Bingo is played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:45 p.m. The first card is free, and everyone is a winner. On Wednesday nights, an all-cash bingo fundraiser is held, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. Readers may call the aforementioned number for more information.
