Johnson & Johnson and predecessors Pfizer and Warner Lambert have been part of the Lititz business and industry landscape for decades. Recently, Johnson & Johnson made a contribution to support the renewal of the 56-year-old Lititz Springs Pool. The pool complex and Lititz recCenter are located just across the railroad tracks from Johnson & Johnson's Lititz manufacturing and distribution plant. Lititz recCenter is leading the comprehensive renovation project now underway at Lititz Springs Pool. A $10,000 contribution from Johnson & Johnson is helping to secure $2 million in matching state grant funding for the project.
Construction to completely rehabilitate the stressed pool site began with demolition of the old filtration building and most of the existing bath houses. A new and larger mechanical building will be erected to house modern filters and chemical treatment systems. ADA-compliant modern restrooms, showers, and changing areas will be reconstructed on the same footprint of the existing bath houses. The concrete desks surrounding the pools were excavated to accommodate expansion of the main pool, the construction of an all new splash pad, and to regrade the entire complex to bring it into ADA compliance. Repairs are being made to the competition lap swimming pool.
Over the past year, Lititz recCenter has rallied community support from businesses, community organizations, and community members in order to leverage state grant funding, which is making the renewal project for Lititz Springs Pool possible. The project is forecast to be completed in May 2020, in time for the opening of the summer swim season.
