For the 12th consecutive year, the Meals on Wheels network is participating in the 2019 Subaru Share the Love Event. Over the past 11 years, Subaru and its retailers have helped Meals on Wheels to deliver more than 2.2 million meals nationwide to seniors in need. As a participant in Meals on Wheels, Golden Connections Community Center (GCCC) provides nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to seniors of York County so recipients can stay independent and healthy.
The 2019 Subaru Share the Love Event began on Nov. 14 and will continue through Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. During this timeframe, for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer's choice of participating charities. Meals on Wheels is one of four national participating charities and has been since the inception of the event. Through this event, as a member of Meals on Wheels America, GCCC will receive a share of the donation from Subaru vehicles sold at participating Subaru retailers.
Additionally, GCCC, located at 20-C Gotham Place, Red Lion, will host a Give Back Event along with a kickoff to the 2019 Subaru Share the Love Event on Friday, Nov. 22. Community members are invited to visit GCCC that day for a bake sale at 10 a.m., line dancing at 10:15 a.m., and a donation drive all day.
Requested items in the donation drive include toothpaste, toothbrushes, wash cloths, combs, soap, hand sanitizer, adhesive bandages, antibiotic ointment, socks, gloves, hats, small packets of facial tissues, gum and nonperishable snacks. These items will be distributed to homeless veterans. Additionally, blankets are sought for distribution to children in need of love this holiday season. All donations must be new and still in their original packaging.
