The Viktor Yeliohin International Ballet Academy, located on West Grant Street in Lancaster, has been bustling with activity since August. Local ballet dancers from Lancaster County have been meeting every Saturday to rehearse for the traditional Christmas ballet, "The Nutcracker." This will be the 27th year for studio's performance of "The Nutracker," which will be held at the Lancaster Mennonite Performing Arts Center at 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, on Friday, Dec. 6; Saturday, Dec. 7; and Sunday, Dec. 8.

Viktor Yeliohin, ballet master and owner of the Viktor Yeliohin International Ballet Academy, will direct the show, which will include more than 80 local dancers. In addition to local talent, professional dancers for the Donetsk Ballet Company of Ukraine will appear on stage throughout the performance. They will be accompanied by their director, Vadim Pisarev. For the past 26 years, the two groups have combined their talents and performance standards to showcase the ballet.

At intermission, the ballet academy will collect donations for Releve, a dance fundraiser to suppor the fight against children's cancer, which will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Franklin & Marshall College. All donations received during this year's "Nutcracker" performances will go toward the 2020 fundraiser.

There will be four "Nutcracker" performances over the course of the weekend, with shows slated for Dec. 6 at 9:45 a.m. for school groups, retirement homes, religious organizations, and the general public; Dec. 7 at 1 and 6 p.m.; and Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. Readers may call 717-201-1122 or email vynutcrackertickets@gmail.com for ticket prices and additional information.
