Extraordinary Give Light Show Planned

Nov 22, 2019 - 6:30 pm

Four local organizations will present the second annual Extraordinary Give Light Show on Friday, Nov. 22, at Gerald G. Huesken Middle School, 500 Mount Sidney Road, Lancaster. Conestoga Valley Education Foundation (CVEF), Region 2 Technology Student Association (TSA), Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services (CVCCS), and Meals on Wheels are collaborating on the event, which will be open to the community.

The light show will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run every 20 minutes until 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the middle school. The show is a preview of the TSA's Holiday Light Show, which is produced each holiday season by students in Conestoga Valley's middle and high schools. This year's event will feature a mix of holiday music and pop music.

Refreshments will be available at the preview event. Additionally, each of the four sponsoring nonprofits will have an information table just inside the middle school. The organizations will share details about their services and activities and offer opportunities to contribute to the Extraordinary Give. There will also be a display about how CVEF grants are being used for elementary science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) initiatives.

This year, CVEF is seeking to raise the funds necessary to outfit four new elementary STEM labs, one at each elementary school, in honor of Bev Breniser. Breniser was an elementary teacher and principal in Conestoga Valley School District at Leola Elementary and Penn Johns Elementary for many years. She also served as the executive director of CVEF for 13 years.

Admission to the show is free, though donations are encouraged as part of the Extraordinary Give.

Additionally, CVEF will have a station set up Funck's, 365 W. Main St., Leola, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Community members may stop by to donate to the Extraordinary Give and learn more about the foundation's work.
