Southern Hope Foundation will host a bingo on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Quarryville VFW Post 3575, 1653 Holtwood Road, Holtwood. Doors will open at noon, and games will begin at 2 p.m.
Tickets purchased in advance will be discounted. Tickets will also be available at the door. Blackout cards and additional bingo cards will be available for an additional fee. The event will include additional prize drawings. Refreshments will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit the foundation, which will assist eight families. The foundation is also partnering with Lifestyle Chiropractic and Wellness, 9 West Willow Road, Willow Street, on Saturday, Dec. 7, for an open house. The event will promote Southern Hope Foundation and collect nonperishable holiday food, such as bagged potatoes, canned corn, canned cranberries, canned green beans, stuffing and anything appropriate for holiday meals. Baby items will also be collected.
Southern Hope Foundation is partnering with Peach Bottom Consignment to start the inaugural Hope Tree program, which connects sponsors to disadvantaged children in the Southern End. The tree will be decorated with paper snowflake tags sharing the first name, age, gender and list for each child. Sponsors will select a child from the Hope Tree and then purchase the items on the list or other appropriate items and deliver them back to the Hope Tree. All unwrapped gifts should to be returned by Dec. 7. The gifts will be delivered before Christmas. Sponsors may also give monetary donations that will be used to purchase gifts for children. Gift cards will also be accepted for older youths.
