Forty years is a long time to serve in the same position. Linda Binder began playing the organ for Trinity Lutheran Church, 221 E. Main St., New Holland, as a senior in high school at the age of 18. On Nov. 24, which was Christ the King Sunday, Trinity Lutheran Church celebrated Binder's 40 years in that role.
In 1979, Binder was chosen to play the church organ by Trinity choir director Earl Pickel, who was also a teacher at Garden Spot High School, after he became aware of her exceptional talent and maturity. At his recommendation, Binder was hired to play the organ at Trinity, and she has been leading worship at the church since then.
During worship on Nov. 24, the choir honored Binder by singing the anthem "Hosanna to the Living Lord" by Robert Lau, a song that had been commissioned for Binder's 25th anniversary of service to the church.
Following the service, a luncheon was held in the church fellowship hall, and Binder was presented with a book of well wishes from the congregation.
