Adamstown Area Library, 3000 N. Reading Road, Adamstown, will offer a variety of activities to the community. Registration is required for most programs. The library will be closed on Tuesdays, Dec. 24 and 31, and on Wednesdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Several story time programs will be offered for young readers. An adult caregiver must accompany children to each program. Program activities will include stories, songs, rhymes, crafts, finger plays, and more. Preschool Story Time, for children ages 2 to 6, will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The Lapsit Program will meet on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and is open to babies up to age 2. Toddler Story Time, for toddlers ages 2 to 3, will take place on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.
Bedtime Stories will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 p.m., and participants should wear pajamas. Parachute Play will be offered on Thursday, Dec. 26, at 10 a.m. for children ages 1 to 3 and at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 4 to 6. Lapsit and Toddler Story Times will not take place on this day.
Donations of new, unwrapped gifts will be accepted for the Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program through Tuesday, Dec. 10. Donations should be placed in the box located near the circulation desk.
Donations of new, unwrapped mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, and other items will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 13, at the Mitten and Accessory Tree. Items will be distributed to local families and children in need.
The library has a Book Giving Tree on-site. Patrons may choose a book title from the tree for purchase, and a bookplate will be added to the book acknowledging the donation. The tree contains book titles for the children's and juveniles' sections.
Letters to Santa may be dropped off through Friday, Dec. 20, at the circulation desk. Replies from Santa will be available for pickup within one week.
The CHI Brush Twice-a-Day Challenge will continue through Monday, Dec. 9. Participants should drop off their cards in the big blue health hero mailbox.
Wheatland Federal Credit Union will host a story time on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. $immy's Money and Savings Financial Literacy Story Time will be presented.
Technology Night will be held on Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. This monthly program is dedicated to helping patrons cope with the ever-changing world of computers, mobile devices, and technology. Registration is required.
A 2019 Pennsylvania Retirement Update will be presented on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will discuss changes affecting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and taxes.
Family Movie Night will feature "Toy Story 4" on Friday, Dec. 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. Attendees will watch the movie after the library's regular hours and are encouraged to wear pajamas. A snack will be provided.
A drop-in Christmas party will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Attendees will visit with Santa, enjoy decorating cookies, and watch a holiday movie. People of all ages are welcome.
An opportunity to create light-up holiday cards will be offered on Dec. 7. Sessions will begin at 10 and 11 a.m. Individuals age 7 and older can make their own holiday cards with paper circuits during the Christmas party.
Denver Borough will hold its tree lighting event on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. at the Denver Municipal Building. Attendees may join Miss Jess for stories at the event.
American Girl: After School Craft Program will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9. Attendees will make an American Girl Christmas ornament. The program is open to children ages 6 to 12. Space is limited, and registration is required.
The Lego Club will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants of all ages will have fun making an individual creation with a surprise theme. A favorite creation will be chosen, and prizes will be awarded. The evening will conclude with a teamwork project.
The library board of trustees will hold a meeting on Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. The Genealogy Interest Group will gather on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. and is open to older students and adults.
STEM - Block Party will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. The party will feature Legos, Keva Planks, Bristle Blocks, Magna-Tiles, and more. The program is designed for children age 6 and up.
The Mystery Guest Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to families. Children should bring along a book they are reading to discuss. A mystery guest will visit, and attendees will ask questions to try to guess their job.
An American Girl program, Rebecca's Hanukkah Celebration, will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 4 p.m. Attendees will learn all about the Jewish Hanukkah holiday, make a craft, and enjoy a treat. The program is designed for children ages 6 to 12. Space is limited.
A walk-in craft event will be offered on Friday, Dec. 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children may stop in at any time during the event to make and take home a seasonal craft.
The Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank will hold a blood drive in the library parking lot on Saturday, Dec. 21. Donors will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Read to Pigs, where participants read to friendly pigs from FairyTail Acres Pig Rescue, will take place on Monday, Dec. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. The program is open to people of all ages.
Duplo and Lego free play will be available all day on Dec. 23. Children are invited to stop by during library hours to build with the library's Legos and Duplos. Each family group must include a responsible adult.
