Library Posts December Slate

Columbia Public Library, 24 S. Sixth St., Columbia, will host a variety of programs in December. Programs are free and open to the public. For more details, readers may call the library at 717-684-2255.

The Nifty Needles Knitting Club will gather at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. People of all skill levels are welcome to attend. Attendees should bring scissors and any yarn or knitting needles they have. Instruction will be provided by Gaile Morrison.

On Monday, Dec. 16, will be an author visit from 5 to 7 p.m. by Colleen Robustelli and her mother, Mary Jane Henger. Robustelli is the author of "Papa Takes Ella to Market," a picture book featuring Lancaster's Central Market and for which Henger created all the artwork. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of "Papa Takes Ella to Market" are donated to the Power Packs Project. Books will be available to purchase and sign.

Also on Dec. 16 will be "Make a Holiday Gift for Someone Special." This Family Fun Night will offer two sessions, one for children ages 3 to 5 at 5:30 p.m. and another for youths ages 6 to 12 at 6:30 p.m. Each session will offer the opportunity to make a holiday gift for someone special. There is a limit of 12 children per session, with registration requested by calling 717-684-2255. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Walk-ins will be accepted if space is available.

The Prime Timers will round out their 2019 sessions with artist Diana Thomas at Trinity House Apartments, 400 Mill St., Columbia, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18. "It Takes a Village to Paint Our Bridge" will be a hands-on painting project. Each artist will paint a pre-drawn section of canvas, and those painted sections will be pieced together to create a giant mosaic of the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge. No special artistic talent is necessary, and all are welcome.

The library will continue its Mitten Tree campaign through Friday, Dec. 13. Visitors are asked to bring in new, unwrapped gifts of mittens, scarves, hats, gloves and socks to place under the tree. All items will be donated to the Columbia Clothing Bank and winter shelters.

Library podcasts are currently updating every two weeks at http://www.columbiapubliclibrary.org/storytime. "Little Red Riding Hood" will begin on Dec. 16, with "Cinderella" on Monday, Dec. 30.

Holiday hours for the library will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Dec. 24 and 31. The library will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

New Year's at Noon will be held at the National Watch and Clock Museum, 514 Poplar St., Columbia, on Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a balloon drop, a disc jockey and dance party, mascots, and a story time.

Preschool Pals is currently on hiatus, but it will return on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. Kathie Ingoglia will share stories and crafts with preschoolers and their friends until Miss Susan returns.
