Luther Acres, 600 E. Main St., Lititz, is offering a variety of courses for its winter "reDiscover A World of Possibilities" program. The courses are one day a week, and some cover a two-, three- or four-week period. All are open to the greater community. Most courses are held on the Luther Acres campus and have varying fees for campus residents and nonresidents. The purpose of the "reDiscover" program is to provide an opportunity to learn new things, be creative, enrich minds and have fun.
"The Challenge of an Evolving Faith in the 21st Century" will meet each Thursday in February from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This course will examine pluralism, secularization and fundamentalism, and it will be led by David Myers, a Luther Acres resident and a retired United Methodist clergyman.
"Create a Ukrainian Egg" will be offered on Monday, Feb. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. Instructor Oksana Kerod will lead attendees in creating a Ukrainian egg, also called a Pysanky egg. One does not need crafting experience to enjoy this course.
"Say Cheese!" will be held on Mondays, Feb. 3 and 10, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about a variety of cheeses, providing them with an introduction to cheese, focusing on types, styles, rinds, animals and more, along with an opportunity to touch, smell and taste cheeses.
"Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate!" will take place on Wednesdays, Feb. 12, 19 and 26, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cary Wells from FLIK Hospitality, Luthercare's culinary partner, will create chocolate treats. Attendees will also receive recipes and taste the final product.
"Nutrition 101" will be taught on Feb. 12 and 19 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Session one is titled "What's for Dinner?" and will discuss meal planning, portion size, food grouping and the best time of day to eat. Session two will be "The Keto Diet: Is It Right for You?" They will be taught by Luther Acres wellness specialist Collean Riehl.
"Museums of Lancaster County" will be a series of trips to museums located throughout the county. The first trip will be to the National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia on Thursday, Feb. 20. A bus will depart Luther Acres around 12:15 p.m. and leave to return at 3 p.m. The second trip, on Friday, Feb. 28, will be to the Bible Tabernacle Reproduction at the Mennonite Information Center in Lancaster. A bus will depart Luther Acres around 9 a.m. and will stop for lunch before returning.
