Garden Club Will Meet

The Lititz Garden Club will meet on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz. Kevin Glaes and Wayne Geltz of the Reading-Berks Rose Society will share their knowledge of growing roses.

Glaes will present a photo slideshow of different types of roses from old garden roses to modern varieties. Glaes and Geltz will then discuss the fundamentals of growing roses, including planting, fertilizing, watering and pest and fungi control.

Glaes has grown roses in the Reading area for about 25 years. He has also grown roses in Maryland, California, Montana, Texas, and Germany. He currently serves as president of the Reading-Berks Rose Society. Glaes is certified through the American Rose Society as a rose show judge and a consulting rosarian.

Geltz lives in Warwick Township and has grown roses for 40 years. He specializes in growing and exhibiting hybrid tea roses. He currently serves as the vice president of the Reading-Berks Rose Society.

Founded in 1931, the Reading-Berks Rose Society seeks to help gardeners in the greater Reading area grow quality roses.

Gardeners of all interests and experience levels are welcome. The program is free and open to the public. Preregistration is appreciated and may be accomplished by emailing lititzgardenclub@gmail.com.
