Community REACH Inc., 15 First Ave., Red Lion, has posted its upcoming programs. The free programs are designed for the community served by the Dallastown, Eastern, and Red Lion school districts. On Monday, Feb. 3, from 10 to 11 a.m., Marlin Bollinger of State Farm will present "The Basics of Insurance." Bollinger will provide information about all aspects of various types of insurance coverage. Registration is requested.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon, representatives from Randy Whitney Mid Atlantic (formerly Specialy Industries) will share employment opportunities. This will feature a walk-in format with a questions-and-answers table with information about employment opportunities available at Rand Whitney Mid Atlantic. Attendees are encouraged to consider using the new PA CareerLink station while waiting to speak with the human resource representative. Registration is not required. A similar employment session will feature Stewart Companies, Stewart and Tate, Apple Automotive on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Beth Miller, an OSS Health at Home, Home Health liaison, will return to Community REACH on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. for a presentation titled "Heart Health - Know Your Numbers and What They Mean." Registration is required.
On Thursday, Feb. 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., instructor Albert Storm will conduct the English Language Learning class. Small group and individual instruction is provided for English language learners of all levels. New students are always accepted, and registration is appreciated.
Also on Feb. 6, from 2 to 3 p.m., instructor Sam Neff will conduct the Computers and Technology class. This class is for beginners and experienced users. Beginners will cover the following topics: using a mouse to choose items on the screen, getting familiar with the desktop of a Chromebook, using Google Chrome to navigate the internet, using Google Docs to create documents, filling in forms such as job applications on the internet, and email. Experienced users are welcome to join the class to use the Chromebooks for tasks they may want to do on the internet and get help from the instructor. Registration is required.
On Feb. 6 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., instructor David Morton will present "Building My Resume." Participants will learn the basics about the purposes of a resume and why they should create one. They will also learn the crucial parts of a resume and the items that need to be in those parts. Participants will have time to compose their own resumes with guidance. Participants may wish to bring their own laptops, although some center Chromebooks will be available. Registration is required.
On Feb. 6, from 7 to 8 p.m., Morton will present "Refining My Resume." This session will open with a brief review of the "Building My Resume" session but will go beyond the information covered in that session and explore some of the essentials for tailoring the resume in today's job market. Participants will revise their existing resumes for precise job duty descriptions and will examine using power verbs during the program. They will edit their resumes for clarity and usage issues and will work through nuances in writing the resume for specific situations. Participants may bring a digital copy of their current resumes and their own laptops, although some center Chromebooks will be available. Registration is required.
On Friday, Feb. 7, Morton will again present "Building My Resume" from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and "Refining My Resume from 11 a.m. to noon.
UPMC will return to Community REACH on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon for a "Seasonal Affective Disorder and Depression" presentation. Cindy Richard will be the instructor. Discussion will focus on effective wellness, especially leading up to and during the fall and winter months.
