Lower Dauphin High School (LDHS) seniors Katelyn Sparks and Anna Given recently received recognition.
Katelyn, the daughter of Amy and Brad Sparks, was the Hummelstown Rotary Club's Student of the Month for December. She is a four-year member of the field hockey team and also plays girls' lacrosse. Katelyn has been involved with Mini-THON for four years and serves as a committee chair this year. She is also a four-year member of the National Honor Society and National Science Honor Society. She is active as a buddy with Special Olympics and with the Best Buddies club. Katelyn also participates in the Health Career Exploration Program at the Hershey Medical Center.
In the community, Katelyn participates in the Hershey Medical Center Teen Summer Volunteer Program and the Miles for Matt 5K fundraiser. She plans to attend Slippery Rock University, where she will continue her field hockey career and major in biology with a pre-medicine track.
Anna, the daughter of Matthew and Nicole Given, was named the Hummelstown Women's Club's Young Woman of the Month for December. She is a three-year member of the band and a four-year member of the guard. Anna is a four-year member of Students Against Destructive Decisions and the Falcon Flash school newspaper. She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society, where she serves as vice president and president, respectively. She is a founding member and leader in the Connection Club. She is also her class's student representative to the board of directors of Lower Dauphin Communities That Care and is active with the organization, spending five years with Club Ophelia and helping to spearhead the Be Kind initiative.
Anna is also active in her church and participated in the Trinity International University Leadership 360 Institute the past two summers. She hopes to attend American University and major in international relations.
