Senior Center Posts Schedule

South Central York County Senior Center, 150 E. Main St., New Freedom, has posted its upcoming activities. The center also serves a hot lunch on weekdays at 11:30 a.m. Members are encouraged to arrive at 11:20 a.m.

Seniors must be member sof the center to participat ein the activities. To become a member, participants should bring a driver's license or photo identification to the senior center. For more information, readers may call 717-235-6060.

For members who no longer drive or do not have transportation, the senior center offers transportation to and from the center via rabbittransit. The service is available for free for anyone age 60 and over.

Every day, members may use the exercise equipment or walk in the gym. Exercise classes include isometric exercise daily at 9:30 a.m., tai chi daily at 10:15 a.m., stretch yoga on Mondays at 9:15 a.m., Balance and Core on Tuesdays at 9 a.m., Weights and Balance on Wednesdays at 9 a.m., line dancing on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., Zumba Gold on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m., Beginners Core and Balance on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m., and Balance and Core on Fridays at 9 a.m.

The center offers cards and games on weekdays, as well as an acrylic art class on Mondays at 9:30 a.m., a watercolor class on Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m., ceramics on Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m., the blanket knotting project on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, Walking Through the Bible on Thursdays at 8:45 a.m. and Bunco on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. New players are welcome to join in playing Bunco. The Friends Together craft class meets on Fridays at 9 a.m. and adult coloring meets on Fridays at 10:15 a.m.

The center also offers cardmaking every other Monday after lunch. A quilters group meets on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. to create lap robes for veterans.

Senior center members may gather to knit and crochet hats for Coats of Friendship. Yarn will be provided.

Each month, the center offers a movie and popcorn. On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., a nurse visits to check blood pressures. A podiatrist vists every nine weeks and will be on-site on Thursday, Feb. 13; interested individuals should contact the senior center to preregister.

The senior center needs volunteers to deliver meals to seniors. Participants will volunteer one morning every four weeks. The Meals on Wheels program delivers more than 50 meals to seniors on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The center also has cookbooks available for sale.

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program will offer a free tax service for all ages, especially those age 50 and older. The service is free and AARP membership is not required. Taxpayers should bring photo identification and proof of the Social Security or ITIN numbers for everyone on the tax return, including dependents. Bringing last year's tax return, if available, is also helpful. Tax-Aide volunteers are able to prepare most personal income tax returns, including those with basic self-employment income. They are not trained to do business returns, such as corporate, partnership, limited partnership, farm income or rental income.
