Mohler Center Plans Programs

Appointments for free confidential tax preparation for low- to moderate-income seniors will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and readers may call Mohler Center to schedule an appointment. Federal 1040, Pennsylvania PA-40, local earned income tax, and Pennsylvania Property/Rent Rebates can be prepared. The service is not available for those filing a large number of stock transactions, casualty losses, and income from farms, businesses, or rental properties. Participants should bring a photo ID and Social Security card, along with all statements defining wages (such as interest, dividends, pension, Social Security, gambling, and unemployment), Marketplace health insurance forms (1095-A), documentation showing the original purchase price of sold assets, and a copy of last year's tax return and supporting tax documentation. For property or rent rebates, participants should bring 2019 property tax bills marked paid or a rent certificate signed by their landlord that states the amount of rent paid in 2019.

On Friday, Feb. 21, Movies and Munchies will be offered at 11 a.m. "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" starring Tom Hanks will be shown. The program is free, but reservations should be made by Tuesday, Feb. 18.

On Monday, March 2, a Lunch and Learn program will discuss the prevention and treatment of Lyme disease. Lunch will include stuffed shells, tossed salad, and dessert. Reservations should be made by Thursday, Feb. 27.

On Wednesday, March 4, during Mohler Take Out, the center will sell baked ham, roasted red potatoes, and green beans. Hot meals will be available for purchase starting at 2 p.m. and continuing until the food is sold out. Meals will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The senior center has a group of volunteers who meet weekly to craft handmade dolls and bears for children at Hershey Medical Center. The group is seeking sponsors to support the cost of the doll and bear fill material. Interested readers may contact the center for details.

The center is planning several travel opportunities during 2020. For more information and to make reservations, readers may contact the center. The schedule includes a Baltimore Dine Around trip on Thursday, June 4; a trip to see "Wicked" on Broadway on Wednesday, July 8; a Valor and Honor Trip to West Point/Hudson River on Thursday, Aug. 20; and a Poconos Fall Foliage and Train Excursion on Thursday, Oct. 1.
