Brandywine Health Foundation is sharing two new opportunities with the community. One will aim to help area youths live healthier lives and the other will recognize an outstanding member of the community for his or her dedicated service to the greater Coatesville area.
In alignment with the Brandywine Health Foundation's focus on the social determinants of health, grant proposals are being solicited from organizations in the greater Coatesville area to address either of two funding priorities. Proposals can focus on ways to improve health outcomes for youths or on projects that will address food insecurity in the community. This outreach is in conjunction with the foundation's Coatesville Area Youth Philanthropy Program (CAYPP), currently in its fifth year of service to the community.
In the coming months, CAYPP members will award $15,000 in grants in the range of $5,000 to $10,000 to eligible organizations. CAYPP, which is supported by Citadel Bank, is seeking organizations that engage community members in a sustainable manner, produce measurable outputs and outcomes, and collaborate well with other local agencies, such as the Coatesville Area School District. The greater Coatesville community is defined as the nine municipalities in the Coatesville Area School District: the city of Coatesville; the townships of Caln, East Fallowfield, Sadsbury, Valley, West Brandywine, and West Caln; and the boroughs of Modena and South Coatesville.
The grant application is available at https://brandywinefoundation.org/current-priorities/coatesville-are-youth-philanthropy-program/grant-application/. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 20, at 4 p.m. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Additionally, the foundation is asking readers to help identify a deserving Chester County resident to be recognized for his or her efforts to make the county a better place to live. Community members are invited to nominate a Chester County resident to receive the Eastburn Community Service Award, presented each year in memory of Jane and Al Eastburn, both of whom served the Coatesville area as nonprofit leaders.
The Eastburn Community Service Award is given to an individual who has given back and/or currently gives back to the Coatesville community, making a positive difference with his or her time, energy, and expertise. While philanthropic support is an added benefit, it is not the most significant factor. Past award recipients include Pierre Annaballi, Coatesville Area Public Library; Robert "Bob" A. Spatola, Handi-Crafters Inc. and Coatesville Youth Initiative; Steve and Shannon Kirk, Scott Field Project; and Sgt. Rodger Ollis Jr., Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, Chester County Food Bank, Coatesville Salvation Army, David's Drive 831, and Coatesville Kids to College. This award represents both recognition and a $2,500 grant that will go to a nonprofit organizations designated by the award recipient.
Priority consideration will be given to those who help or support nonprofits in the Coatesville community, volunteer their time and talents in the Coatesville area, serve as mentors to help develop future volunteer leaders for the community, have a consistently positive outlook on the future of the Coatesville community, and persevere through challenges and setbacks.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 3. For more information about the award, readers may visit http://www.brandywinefoundation.org or contact Dana Heiman at dheiman@brandywinefoundation.org.
