Capital Area Transit (CAT) is requiring all passengers on CAT vehicles to cover their nose and mouth with a mask, bandana, or scarf as of April 13. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that anyone leaving home use face covering to limit his or her potential exposure to COVID-19 and to prevent exposing others. Bus operators and all essential CAT staff are also wearing face masks covering the nose and mouth, which began on April 6.
CAT bus operators will monitor compliance with the face covering requirement. Passengers not wearing a face mask covering their nose and mouth will not be allowed to board the bus until they comply.
CAT is actively seeking donations of cloth masks for riders from outside community organizations. Those who would like to donate may call CAT's Customer Service Care Center at 717-238-8304 or email info@cattransit.com.
Additionally, CAT asks passengers to follow these health guidelines provided by the CDC: avoid close contact with people who are sick; avoid touching one's eyes, nose, and mouth; stay home when one is sick; cover one's cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash; clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes; and wash one's hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the restroom, before eating, and after blowing one's nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, individuals may use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
