Naturalization Ceremonies Set

The York County prothonotary scheduled five outdoor naturalization ceremonies for the month of May. The first ceremony was held on May 12 on the steps of the York County Administrative Building in downtown York. Dates and times for the subsequent four ceremonies had not yet been publicized as of May 5.

These outdoor ceremonies will allow new citizens to be naturalized after their ceremony was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A naturalization ceremony is considered a court proceeding, so new citizens will not be violating the state's stay-at-home order to attend.

A naturalization ceremony is a venue to recognize the rights, responsibilities, and importance of citizenship and provide access to services for new citizens. The naturalization ceremony is the culmination of years of working toward American citizenship.
