NHSAP Plans July Fourth Fireworks

Group Modifies Concert Schedule

When the members of the New Holland Summer Arts Program (NHSAP) committee met at the New Holland Memorial Community Park on June 1, the members knew that COVID-19 restrictions would cause them to limit the schedule of concerts and other activities that the group planned to hold in the park during the summer of 2020.

The annual craft show, an NHSAP fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, June 27, was canceled. The group noted that the safety of volunteers, vendors, and the community was foremost in the decision-making process. In addition, all concerts planned for the month of July were canceled with hopes that many of them could be rescheduled in September, following the annual Fiddlers Picnic, which will be held on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The group has announced that fireworks will be held on Saturday, July 4, beginning at 9:30 p.m. A rain date of Sunday, July 5, has been set. No concert will be held in the park prior to the fireworks show. "(The fireworks display) will be a higher show (than in the past) to be seen from farther away," said Sue Noll, a member of the NHSAP committee. Parking will be available at Petra Church, 565 Airport Road, New Holland, and at the WellSpan New Holland Health Center, 435 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Additional parking in Garden Spot Village may also be available.

During August, NHSAP hopes to hold concerts in the park in compliance with restrictions. "Masks and social distancing guidelines will be encouraged based on the COVID-19 state recommendations," said Noll. August concerts will begin at 7 p.m., with the exception of the Saturday, Aug. 22, appearance of Mitch and the Mood Swings, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 1, the Celtic sounds of Rizzetta's Tones are scheduled to echo through the park. On Sunday, Aug, 2, the Twin Rose Community Band will play. On Wednesday, Aug. 5, the Rampart Street Ramblers will bring their Dixieland and traditional jazz sounds to the venue. On Saturday, Aug. 8, the John Stevens Polka Band will perform. On Sunday, Aug. 9, a special tribute to Billy Graham called "Then Sings My Soul" will be held. On Wednesday, Aug. 12, Charlie Zahm will perform a John Denver tribute and play Celtic Americana. On Saturday, Aug. 15, The New Individuals will play music from the '60s and '70s including the Beatles and the Beach Boys. On Sunday, Aug. 16, the Den and Terry Duo will perform, and on Wednesday, Aug. 19, the bluegrass and gospel sounds of Remington Ryde will be heard. On Sunday, Aug. 23, Frank and Patsy will perform a Frank Sinatra and Patsy Cline tribute.

July concerts that are rescheduled in September may be held at earlier times due to the earlier sunsets. Bands that were scheduled for July include the CAISO Steel Drum Band, the Nomads, and the New Holland Swing Band, among others.

All shows are free to the public. More information about NHSAP and a full concert schedule are available at http://www.newhollandsummerarts.com. NHSAP welcomes volunteers. Readers who have questions may email newhollandsummerartsassoc@gmail.com.
