Columbia Public Library, 24 S. Sixth St., Columbia, is offering a curbside pickup service. The service began on June 8.
To request items, patrons may call 717-684-2255. Prior to calling, patrons are encouraged to use the online catalog at http://search.lancasterlibraries.org to find titles. Library staff will locate the iteams and call patrons back to schedule a pickup time.
When they call, patrons will be asked to provide their library card number, their phone number, and the titles of the requested materials. There is a limit of five items at a time. This includes up to three DVDs. Families with children will be given two books per child, if requested.
For patrons who are unsure of which titles they want, the library also offers a "grab bag" pull of a favorite author or subject. Only Columbia Public Library materials are available at this time.
When picking up items, patrons are required to provide photo identification and their library card. One person or family at a time will proceed up the front handicapped-accessible ramp to the library window closest to the front doors. There are no exceptions.
Patrons are required to wear masks when picking up items. A staff member will open the window and ask to see a patron's library card. Without a library card, staff will not release the materials. The staff member will give patrons their materials in a bag. Patrons will be asked to exit either down the steps or down the ramp. X's will be placed on the sidewalk to help patrons adhere to social distancing guidelines. Patrons are asked remain on the marked spots while waiting their turn.
Returned materials are required to be placed in the book drop. Patrons may not hand their returns to a staff member. If patrons do not pick up their items at their scheduled time slot, the items will be checked back in and reshelved. Library staff cannot accomodate changes in pickup times right now.
Patrons may not pick up items for other people during this time. The library will offer curbside pickup at patrons' cars only for patrons with mobility issues. The number of time slots will be limited.
