Members of the LCCTC FFA chapter were recognized in a virtual awards ceremony on May 26. All chapter members are part of the Animal Production Science & Technology Program at the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center (LCCTC), 1730 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street.
The chapter members are high school seniors and will receive Pennsylvania FFA Convention T-shirts as a graduation gift sponsored by the Lancaster County Agriculture Council. Throughout the school year, all students had an opportunity to job shadow, interact with guest speakers on a variety of topics, visit a variety of places related to animal science on curriculum field trips, and earn several industry certifications.
Katie Brandsema, Manheim Township, was named the Outstanding Student for having the top grades in the program throughout the entire school year. Katie's award included a monetary prize sponsored by the Lancaster Dairy Herd Improvement Association, where she has worked as a co-operative student since November 2019. Katie was the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) chapter president and the LCCTC FFA vice president during the past school year.
The Student of Merit Award went to Sara Fletcher, Pequea Valley, for her academic achievement. Sara had excellent grades the entire school year, and she was an NTHS member. Her award included a monetary prize sponsored by Risser's Poultry.
Kaitlyn Jack, Elizabethtown, and Joey Musselman, Pequea Valley, earned Hardest Working Student Awards for their efforts with class activities and maintaining the A honor roll for all four marking periods. Their monetary awards were sponsored by Occupational Advisory Board members Robert Herr and Don Ranck.
The DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award was given to Aubrielle Patton, Garden Spot, for her leadership as president of the LCCTC FFA. In addition to her classroom leadership, Aubrielle also took part in every FFA activity the chapter offered outside of school time. These events included an information booth for Lancaster County Ag Week, horse rides for Barktoberfest, volunteer work with the Lancaster City Police Mounted Unit at the Horse World Expo, and attendance at FFA events such as Meet Your State Officer Night, LanCo LEADS Conference, and the Agricultural Cooperation Establishes Success (ACES) Conference. Aubrielle's award was supplemented with a monetary donation by LCCTC FFA supporters Steve and Deb Berkoski.
The LCCTC FFA officers each received a plaque for their year of service. In addition to Aubrielle and Katie, the officer team included secretary Morgan Turner, Penn Manor; treasurer Rosimar Quinones, School District of Lancaster; and reporter Jazmine Kelsey, Manheim Central.
Jazmine and Morgan earned their Greenhand Degree after demonstrating an ability to explain various aspects of FFA and memorizing the FFA Creed.
