WEF Makes Donation

The Warwick Education Foundation (WEF) recently donated $5,000 to the Lititz Warwick Community Chest, which runs the local food pantry.

The WEF raised the $5,000 as part of the "Education Rocks the '80s" fundraising gala, which was scheduled for March 20 then postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A much-reduced version of the silent auction was held as originally scheduled, only online. The board of directors decided the money should be used to encourage learning by supplying food.

Lititz Warwick Community Chest reported it has experienced an increase in distributions of food from its pantry during the pandemic.

Anyone in the Warwick School District who needs food can call the food pantry hotline at 717-627-0770. Anyone who wants to contribute nonperishable foods can drop them off at Lititz Warwick Community Chest at 200 W. Orange St., Lititz.

Food items that the pantry needs include canned fruit, canned soup, canned vegetables, baked beans, canned potatoes or yams, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti and assorted kinds of plain pasta, instant mashed potatoes, gelatin and pudding mixes, gravy and broth, macaroni and cheese, white or brown rice, flavored rice or pasta mixes, hamburger or chicken or tuna boxed meal kits, miniature meals for children (such as ravioli), peanut butter and jelly, ketchup, mustard and mayonaise, hot and cold breakfast cereal, pancake mix and syrup, crackers, granola bars and dried fruit, apple or cranberry or grape juice for children, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and powdered milk.

Household essentials also needed include toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes, bar soap, dishwashing liquid, and liquid laundry detergent.
