Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Art Proposals Sought

Artists of all skill levels age 16 and older are invited to submit proposals for a downtown Reading mural project titled "Art for Hope, Healing and Community Unity." The 20 murals will be installed this summer on Cherry and Court streets.

Selected artists will receive an honorarium. Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, July 8. For more information, visit http://www.berksarts.org and choose Current Events.

The mural is an initiative of Berks Arts Council, City Of Reading, Pennsylvania, Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, and the Reading Parking Authority.

Cancer Support Group

A new support group is starting and is open to anyone who has had cancer or currently has cancer. Men and women age 18 and above are welcome to attend.

The first meeting will be held on Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. at Conestoga Mennonite Church, located at 2779 Main St., Morgantown.

Chicken Barbecue

Nantmeal Methodist Church, 359 Nantmeal Road, Glenmoore, will hold its annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, July 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. Only takeouts will be offered this year. The event will be held rain or shine

The cost of the dinner includes one-half of a chicken, a baked potato, coleslaw, homemade apple sauce, a roll with butter and dessert.

Reservations are recommended. Walk-ins will be welcome until sold out. Call or text 610-613-2657 to reserve tickets.

Golf Outing

Registration is currently underway for the second annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Animal House Project dba Chester County Pet Food Pantry. The tournament will be held on Friday, July 24, at the Honeybrook Golf Club, 1422 Cambridge Road, Honey Brook.

The charity golf outing will open with registration and continental breakfast at 8 a.m. Tee-off with a scramble start will begin at 9 a.m. The registration fee includes range balls, green fees, use of a cart, a swag bag, breakfast and lunch. There will also be cash prizes awarded for a hole-in-one and a shoot-out contest, as well as an opportunity to win gift baskets.

Both groups of four and individuals are invited to register to play golf. Nongolfers are also welcome to attend to enjoy the meals and to enter the prize drawings. Chicken Barbecue

Living God Lutheran Church, 3200 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, will hold a takeout chicken barbecue meal on Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will include one-half of a chicken, a baked potato, coleslaw, a dinner roll, dessert and a beverage. Only takeouts will be available for curbside pickup.

Library Open

The Honey Brook Community Library, 687 Compass Road, Honey Brook, is open to the public for limited hours. The library will allow people inside the building on Mondays through Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 pm. Browsing for materials and public computer usage will be limited. Curbside pickup for books and materials will continue before and after the hours that the library is open to the public

Mask are required inside of the building. For additional information, call the library at 610-273-3303. To place an item on hold for pickup, visit http://www.ccls.org.

The library's Summer Reading Program has gone virtual. Registration is available for all ages at http://www.honeybrooklibrary.readsqared.com. Patrons can also request a Summer Reading Program packet at the library by calling 610-273-3303 for curbside pickup.
