Library Sets Schedule

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, has posted its programs, including in-person and virtual programs.

The Summer Reading Program is themed "Imagine Your Story!" and will continue until Saturday, Aug. 15. Readers may use the digital "Beanstack" App to log their progress, or they may obtain a printed copy from the library. Virtual badges and real prizes will be available.

A Summer Reading Program for adults is themed "Imagine Your Story ... Across the USA!" Participants will choose books located in specific states or written by authors of specific states.

Summer Fitness Quest, a Get Outside physical activity program, supports free opportunities for children and adults to visit and enjoy Lancaster County parks, trails, and nature preserves. Participants may earn a medal once the Quest is completed and enter to win a Giant gift card.

Preschoolers are invited to sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a free library program that promotes early literacy.

All story times and in-person library programs will be held outside under a shade canopy and in fair weather only; families are asked to bring their own seating and are asked to stay an appropriate distance from other families and wear masks when necessary.

Preregistration is required, as all program attendance is limited. Preregistration can be done at http://www.mslibrary.org, by calling the library 717-653-1510, or by signing up in person at the library.

Weekly story times will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays, July 8 and 9, 15 and 16, 22 and 23, and 29 and 30, with time slots from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m. Themes will vary weekly, and preregistration is required.

A Teddy Bear Picnic will be held on Friday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to noon with Miss Jan. Participants should bring a teddy bear or other stuffed animal, a packed lunch, and a blanket. There will be stories, songs, and activities celebrating bears.

Art in the Park, for people age 7 and up, will take place on Monday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. Students can create a piece of art taking inspiration from a featured artist using a variety of media. Space is limited.

Lunch Bunch will be held at noon on Tuesdays, July 14, 21, and 28. Children age 7 and up should bring seating, a packed lunch and beverage, and a book they are reading. Miss Jan will provide dessert and will introduce an mystery guest.

Virtual youth and family programs will be available, with live Zoom events and prerecorded videos. Information and links to the programs are available on the Library's website. Miss Jan will also continue to offer virtual weekly story times and other activities that can be viewed on social media or on the library's website.

Mini Chef Creations Mornings, featuring Giant nutritionists on Zoom, will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 to 11:15 a.m. Details and registration are available at http://www.thegiantcompanynutritionists.eventbrite.com.

Drum for Fun with Tammi Hessen will be offered for people of all ages on Thursday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m. Participants will learn about the original story of "The Lion King."

Girls Go STEAM Summer Spectacular will be offered for free on Monday through Thursday, July 13 to 16, with times varying according to age. Girls entering kindergarten through grade 12 will explore areas like coding, engineering, creative thinking, and teamwork.

A prerecorded video of Hank's Sense-sational Day will be available beginning on Tuesday, July 14, at 10 a.m. in partnership with CHI St. Joseph's Children's Health. Hank the Health Hero will help children learn about their bodies.

Growing a Beanstalk with Lancaster Parks and Recreation Department will be available on July 14 at 10:30 a.m.

Phredd Ukulele One-Man Band will perform a Zoom event on Thursday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m., and Ryan "the Bug Man" Bridge will present "The Myth and Magic of Insects" on Zoom on Tuesday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m.

Jesse Rothacker's Crocodile Chronicles: An Imagination Adventure will be presented on Zoom on Thursday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. He will introduce viewers to some cold-blooded critters and share real-life stories from his three decades of reptile rescue. He is the founder and president of Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary.

On Teen Smoothie Tuesdays, Miss Jan makes a different smoothie every week and posts to the library's Facebook and Instagram pages.
