Cub Scout Pack 148 recently collected food donations for CrossNet Ministries in New Holland.
In May, Castiel Valotta, a Cub Scout in Pack 148, noticed empty shelves at local grocery stores. He remembered how Scouting for Food events helped many people in the community and wondered how many more families were being affected by COVID-19. His family came up with the idea to create an Amazon Wish List, which included an option for people to donate items from a list that Castiel created. Items included canned meats, pasta, sauce, and cereal. Castiel also reached out to the families of Cub Scout Pack 148, and they shared the wish list on Facebook. Word started to spread and the Scouts began collecting food donations.
New Holland Cub Scouts also offered a way to donate by having a non-contact pickup option. The food collection ran for two weeks. A small group of Cub Scouts and their family members delivered three carloads of food to CrossNet Ministries on July 2.
Castiel also created a video to thank the community and everyone who helped make the event a success.
