Community Calendar

The Community Calendar is a weekly feature of the Community Courier.

Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. No items will be accepted over the phone.

Support Group

The personal and memory care neighborhood at the Heritage of Green Hills will host its next support group for caregivers of individuals suffering from dementia, or other debilitating diseases at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15. The meeting will take place online. The monthly caregiver support groups occur on the third Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Held in conjunction with the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, the sessions are free and open to the public.

Though it has moved to a virtual environment temporarily, the support group still seeks to provide a safe, confidential, supportive environment for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. The group also educates participants and helps them develop the skills and confidence to solve caregiving challenges.

Chicken Barbecue

Nantmeal Methodist Church, 359 Nantmeal Road, Glenmoore, will hold its annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, July 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. Only takeouts will be offered this year. The event will be held rain or shine

The cost of the dinner includes one-half of a chicken, a baked potato, coleslaw, homemade apple sauce, a roll with butter and dessert.

Chicken Barbecue

Outdoor Service

The public is invited to an outdoor historical and inspirational service on Sunday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the 1855 Allegheny Mennonite Meetinghouse, 39 Horning Road, Mohnton.

John L. Ruth, a historian, author and speaker who has contributed to the understanding of Mennonite history, faith and culture over several decades, will present "Good News From Old Amsterdam." He will discuss a large, carefully cataloged deposit of correspondence from 1616 to 1784 that relates to the experiences of Mennonites from Switzerland and Germany who founded the Lancaster Mennonite community.

Golf Outing

Registration is currently underway for the second annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Animal House Project dba Chester County Pet Food Pantry. The tournament will be held on Friday, July 24, at the Honeybrook Golf Club, 1422 Cambridge Road, Honey Brook.

The charity golf outing will open with registration and continental breakfast at 8 a.m. Tee-off with a scramble start will begin at 9 a.m. The registration fee includes range balls, green fees, use of a cart, a swag bag, breakfast and lunch. There will also be cash prizes awarded for a hole-in-one and a shoot-out contest, as well as an opportunity to win gift baskets.

Both groups of four and individuals are invited to register to play golf. Nongolfers are also welcome to attend to enjoy the meals and to enter the prize drawings. Chicken Barbecue

Living God Lutheran Church, 3200 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, will hold a takeout chicken barbecue meal on Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will include one-half of a chicken, a baked potato, coleslaw, a dinner roll, dessert and a beverage. Only takeouts will be available for curbside pickup.

Outdoor Story Time

Boone Area Library is offering outdoor story time at Amity Community Park, 1845 Weavertown Road, Douglassville, every Monday in July from 11 a.m. to noon.

Outdoor story time will also be held at Main Bird Park, 226 N. Water St., Birdsboro, every Wednesday in July from 9 to 10 a.m.

Sanitized books will be available. Children who read or listen to a story will win a prize.
