Library Opens By Appointment

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, is now open for brief visits by appointment only. Not all library resources will be available, and visits will be limited to 30 minutes.

Face masks that cover the mouth and nose are required for entry. For those who are unable to wear a mask, the library offers no-contact self-pickup service as an alternative.

Public access computers, faxing, printing, and copying are not available. There is no seating for quiet study, research, reading, or meetings.

To make an appointment, readers may call the library at 717-354-0525 or sign up using the event calendar at http://www.elancolibrary.org. Registration will close one hour before the appointment start time or when the library reaches capacity, whichever comes first.

Phone hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. Additionally, community members may call between 5 and 7 p.m. on Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

Pickup hours are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays; from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays; and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

Phone and pickup hours are subject to change. Readers may check the aforementioned website for updates.

Community members may once again reserve materials through the Library System of Lancaster County's online hold reservation system, including items from other libraries in Lancaster County. Those who cannot browse the online catalog may reserve items over the phone during ELANCO Library's phone hours or email hsmith@elancolibrary.org. Those who are not sure what items they would like may fill out the form at http://www.elancolibrary.org/pickup so staff can choose up to five titles for them.

The library is unable to accept any movie or book donations at this time.

All library events and activities are now offered virtually and may be found on the event calendar at the aforementioned website. Community members may also follow the library on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

All electronic resources, including the e-book and e-audiobook collections, are available at https://lancasterlibraries.overdrive.com/ and http://online.lancasterlibraries.org/.

The Summer Reading Program, "Imagine Your Story," will continue through Saturday, Aug. 15, for children and youths of all ages, including teenagers. All programs and reading logs are virtual; readers may visit http://www.elancolibrary.org/srp2020 for more information.

Summer Fitness Quest, for children ages 5 to 12, will also continue through Aug. 15. The program supports free opportunities for children and adults to visit Lancaster County parks, trails, and nature preserves. More details are available at http://www.lancasterlibraries.org/sfq.

Dungeons and Dragons Club, for youths ages 10 to 19, will meet virtually via Zoom on Friday, July 24, from noon to 2 p.m. Beginners are welcome but should contact cbarrows@elancolibrary.org if they need help building a character sheet. All must register with an email address via the website or by contacting cbarrows@elancolibrary.org.

Virtual Hooks and Needles Craft Club will meet via Zoom on Monday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. Participants may knit, crochet, cross-stitch, sew, or work on any project. Readers may register at http://www.elancolibrary.org for the Zoom meeting ID and password or email hsmith@elancolibrary.org for the invitation.

Book Wizards Read-Aloud Club will meet via Facebook Live at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Aug. 11. Ms. Carla will read aloud a fantasy chapter book.

Recurring programs include Classics with Carla at noon on Mondays and Wednesdays on YouTube, Just Read and Listen on Thursdays at 4 p.m. for children in kindergarten through third grade on Facebook Live, Friday Frolic for 1- to 3-year-olds on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook Live, the How to... Series geared toward adults on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. on YouTube, and Preschool Storytime for 3- to 6-year-olds on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook Live.
