Library Posts In-Person, Virtual Programs

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, has posted its programs, including in-person and virtual programs. All library programs are free unless stated otherwise, and the programs require preregistration. Passport Services at the library have resumed. Readers may call the library to set an appointment for passport services. If callers have questions about passports, they should ask to speak to a passport agent.

The Friends group will accept book donations from 3 to 7 p.m. on Fridays, Aug. 21 and 28, and Tuesdays, Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Aug. 22 and 29. Extra storage space will be allotted behind the library to properly quarantine these books before they can be sorted and stored for next year's book sale. Books must be donated in cardboard boxes or tied in plastic grocery bags for better storage. Volunteers will be on-site for guidance, but those donating should be prepared to unload their own boxes.

The Summer Reading Program is themed "Imagine Your Story!" and will continue until Saturday, Aug. 15. Readers may use the digital "Beanstack" app to log their progress, or they may obtain a printed copy from the library. Virtual badges and real prizes will be available. Prizes must be picked up by Aug. 15.

A Summer Reading Program for adults is themed "Imagine Your Story ... Across the USA!" Participants will choose books that are set in specific states or were written by authors from specific states.

Summer Fitness Quest, a Get Outside physical activity program, supports free opportunities for children and adults to visit and enjoy Lancaster County parks, trails, and nature preserves. Participants may earn a medal once the Quest is completed and enter to win a Giant gift card.

Preschoolers are invited to sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a free library program that promotes early literacy.

All story times and in-person library programs will be held outside under a shade canopy and in fair weather only; families are asked to bring their own seating and are asked to stay an appropriate distance from other families.

Preregistration is required, as all program attendance is limited. Preregistration can be done at the aforementioned website, by calling the library, or by signing up in person at the library.

Weekly story times will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Thursdays, Aug. 6 and 13, with time slots from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m. Themes will vary weekly.

Lunch Bunch, for those age 7 and up, will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at noon. Children are asked to bring a blanket or towel, a packed lunch and a beverage, and the book they are reading. Miss Jan will provide dessert and will introduce a mystery guest. Attendees will try to guess the guest's career.

STEM in a Sack, for those age 7 and up, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays, Aug. 7 and 14. Each child will receive a bag containing the materials needed for that session's project. Space is limited.

Art in the Park will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m. Children age 7 and up are invited to create a piece of art taking inspiration from a featured artist. A variety of media will be used. The program will be held outdoors, and in the case of inclement weather, it will be canceled. Space is limited.

Live Zoom events and prerecorded videos will be offered through all of the Lancaster County libraries. Information and links to the programs are available on the aforementioned website. Miss Jan will also continue to offer virtual weekly story times and other activities that can be viewed on social media.

The virtual programs will include weekly story times and weekly activities on Wednesdays, Aug. 5 and 12, and Thursdays, Aug. 6 and 13. Story times will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the activities will begin at 1 p.m. For both programs, themes will vary weekly.

Mini Chef Creations Morning with Giant nutritionists will be livestreamed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 to 11:15 a.m. The nutritionists will also present Wellness Within Reach on Tuesdays from 4 to 4:15 p.m. and Produce Spotlight on Thursdays from 4 to 4:15 p.m. For class details and to register, readers may visit http://www.thegiantcompanynutritionists.eventbrite.com.

Hank's Healthy Smile will be available on YouTube and Facebook on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. The prerecorded video will be presented in partnership with CHI St. Joseph's Children's Health.

Several virtual programs have been planned for teenagers and adults.

On Teen Smoothie Tuesdays, Miss Jan will make a different smoothie every week. Videos will be available on the library's Facebook and Instagram pages at 1 p.m.

Three clubs for adults have returned to the library. Adults may participate in Closely Knit on Mondays, Aug. 10 and 24, at 1 p.m.; The Joyful Stitchers on Aug. 15 at 9:15 a.m.; and A Gathering of Artists on Aug. 12 at 6 p.m.
