Plans For Knowledge Park Move Forward

The York County Land Bank Authority, staffed by the York County Economic Alliance, is moving forward with assistance to York College of Pennsylvania's creation of the Knowledge Park. The Land Bank Authority will assist in the demolition of a severely blighted and deteriorated section of the building, located at the former Schmidt and Ault Paper Company, 427 Kings Mill Road, York. The building has been vacant and deteriorating since the year 2000 when the paper company operations ceased.

The college purchased the property in 2008 with the intention of a future redevelopment opportunity and campus expansion. The development of the Knowledge Park is intended to add an element of diversity and opportunity to the York community's economic landscape. Business enterprises that can benefit from an association with the resources, faculty, and student population of York College may operate at the Knowledge Park facilities while enriching the learning experiences of the college's students.

The Land Bank and Blighted Property Review Committee are available to assist all municipalities and to help in the remediation of vacant and blighted properties throughout York County.
