Meetings of Kacie's Cause, which is a support group for family and friends of those battling addiction, are being offered on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at the outdoor gazebo at the Schneider Parish Center, 2995 Cemetery Road, Parkesburg.
The meetings were formerly held in the chapel at The Parkesburg POINT, but those meetings were suspended on March 14 due to the coronavirus pandemic. "All group meetings were suspended; however, (Kacie's Cause) founder Andy Rumford offered to arrange Zoom meetings for those in need of support or in-person meetings for the distribution of Narcan as needed," noted Kellie Seltzer, team member, Kacie's Cause, Parkesburg Chapter.
For the meetings in Parkesburg, there is an indoor plan in case of inclement weather. Those who attend the meetings wear masks and practice social distancing.
The Parkesburg meetings are designed and led by a group of moderators. "The group is open to friends and family members, so it is not just for parents," Seltzer noted.

Kacie's Cause is named for Kacie Rumford, the daughter of Andy and Donna Rumford of Kennett Square, who passed away from a fatal overdose in 2013 at the age of 23.
The Parkesburg Chapter was formed in August of 2013 by Betsy and Socker Gillen in honor of their son, John, who died in 2011. More information about John and his parents' efforts can be found at http://www.kaciescause.org/featured-memorial-john-gillen.
In addition to the meetings, Kacie's Cause will offer an online grief support group on the first and third Wednesdays of each month beginning on Aug. 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. The moderator will be counselor Kim Engstrom. Those who contact Engstrom at 484-558-0311 or ke.counselingservices@gmail.com will receive a Zoom invitation to the meetings.
Kacie's Cause also announced that it still plans to hold its annual car show in October. The seventh annual Cars for Kacie event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 4. The show will be held at a new location, the Classic Auto Mall, 6180 Morgantown Road (Route 10), Morgantown. The car show will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with awards at 2:30 p.m. Award winners will be chosen by families that have lost a loved one to addiction.
The event will also feature food, vendors, music and a chance to win prizes. The show is open to vehicles of all years, makes and models.
