Museum Earns Recognition

Recently, automotive attractions from across the nation were nominated by a panel of experts from USA TODAY, 10Best.com, and relevant contributors to compete for the honor of Best Attraction for Car Lovers. For four weeks, the contest invited the public to vote daily for their favorite entry. The AACA Museum Inc., 161 Museum Drive, Hershey, earned a national spot among the top 10 with a ninth-place ranking.

While many spent the spring at home during the COVID-19 global pandemic, the team at the museum used the time to reimagine ways to engage car enthusiasts. The museum built on existing e-publications, created unique digital content and introduced a virtual tour series, a virtual bookshelf, and a Collection Chronicles email series titled "Behind the Wheel."

From mid-April through mid-June, the museum debuted 18 episodes of its "Museum Virtual Tours" series on its website. The videos geared toward viewers of all ages offered weekly online vignettes of the museum's exhibits that traverse Route 66 from New York to San Francisco.

In addition to sharing virtual video content, the museum website introduced a virtual bookshelf. Since April, the museum collected and produced articles and feature stories to share with readers. From Preston Tucker to Betty White, the museum shared the connections between notable personalities and their iconic cars.

The museum also reached out to car enthusiasts through its "Behind the Wheel" email campaign. Each week, the museum highlighted a vehicle in the collection and related its contribution to motoring history. Among those featured were the 1955 Flajole Forerunner, 1969 AMC AMX, 1932 Studebaker Model 55, 1968 Chrysler Imperial, and 1928 Pierce-Arrow Model 36.

The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more details, readers may call 717-566-7100 or visit http://www.aacamuseum.org.
