Local clubs, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, schools, etc., that would like to have events or meeting date information published, should contact the Community Courier in writing at least two weeks before the event. Support Group
Kacie's Cause, Parkesburg Chapter, offers a support group for friends and family of addicted loved ones every Wednesday at the Schneider Parish Center, 2995 Cemetery Road, Parkesburg, in the outdoor gazebo. There is an indoor plan in case of inclement weather.

Library Events
The Moores Memorial Library, 9 W. Slokom Ave., Christiana, will host an outdoor free Family Movie Night on Friday, Aug. 28, behind the library. The movie will begin at 8:45 p.m. For more information, including the move title, call the library at 610-593-6683.
The Friends of the Moores Memorial Library will hold a drive-through chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Lion's Park on North Bridge Street in Christiana. Half-chickens will be offered beginning at 10 a.m. and will be available until sold out. Proceeds will benefit the library.
Yard Sales
Christiana Borough will host community yard sales on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Social distancing will be required, and face masks are recommended. For more information, search for the "Christiana Borough Community Yard Sale" event page on Facebook.
Youth Soccer
The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is now offering fall youth soccer leagues for children ages 4 to 9. A variety of social distancing rules will be put into place; coaches will wear masks.
Practices will begin the week of Monday, Sept. 7, and will be held once weekly. Games will run from Saturday, Sept. 19, through Saturday, Nov. 7, and will be held once weekly on Saturdays. No previous soccer experience is required.
YGBW branches that will run youth soccer leagues include: Brandywine YMCA, 295 Hurley Road, Coatesville; Kennett Area YMCA, 101 Race St., Kennett Square; Lionville Community YMCA, 100 Devon Drive, Exton; and Jennersville YMCA, 880 W. Baltimore Pike, West Grove.
Registration is now open; the deadline to register is Monday, Aug. 31. YMCA membership is not required, however, member rates are available. Each player will receive his or her own soccer ball and jersey.

Free Movie
Church of the Open Bible, 101 E. First Ave., Parkesburg, will present a Movie on the Lawn on Saturday, Sept. 5. The lawn will open for seating at 7:45 p.m., and the movie will start at 8:10 p.m. Participants should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating. There will be free snacks and plenty of space on the lawn to socially distance.
Snacks and activity bags will be provided for children. The bags will be packed by gloved and masked volunteers. Attendees may also bring their own snacks and beverages.

Food Cupboard Open
New hours went into effect at the Octorara Area Food Cupboard on Aug. 1. New hours are Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., and Wednesdays, noon to 3 p.m. and 3:45 to 6 p.m.
