Mental Health America of Lancaster County (MHALC) has provided the public with tips to help those currently working from home. The tips are part of MHALC's Community Mental Health Assistance Program (CMAP).
Those working from home should create structure and set boundaries, separating their home life from their work life. They may consider keeping their workspace in a separate room and closing the door at the end of the work day. Anyone who is working at a space that is used for both home and work purposes, such as a dining table, should clean up their work materials at the end of the day. Work should also be kept to the same hours as the normal day at the office so that people do not find themselves answering emails or phone calls at late hours.
People working from home are also advised to include social interaction in their lives. This goal may be achieved through Zoom, email or phone, and staying social may help people to reassimilate once they return to the office.
Just as at work, people should schedule regular breaks so they may help their bodies recharge, keep their minds focused, and increase their productivity.
People should also ask for help when needed. Just because one is working alone does not mean he or she is alone. If assistance if needed for work tasks, the employee should contact co-workers who may be able to help. People struggling with the COVID-19 crisis in Lancaster County can enroll in the CMAP, which was created to help workers in Lancaster County to access services from a mental health professional.
