Pook & Pook Sets Auction

Pook & Pook Auctions of Downingtown will hold a two-day sale on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10, featuring items such as artwork, furniture, silver, flatware and carpets.

The sale will kick off with items from the collection of Edson J. Brown and Ross M. Trump from Ohio, beginning with a Soap Hollow chest of drawers followed by pipsqueak toys. The collection includes furniture, chalkware items, wallpaper boxes, a carved and painted cigar store Indian chief and Pennsylvania treenware. The Brown/Trump collection opening the sale will also include one-of-a-kind items like a bird Ferris wheel with four painted birds riding along and a fifth perched on top. The collection will close out with an assortment of spatterware. The opening night of the auction will also include the continuation of the sale of a selection of mocha.

Session one will finish up with more than two dozen pieces of fine art and sculptures, including a large piece by Ben Austrian depicting a mother hen and 11 baby chicks and a landscape titled "Winter Interior Woodstock New York" by Emile A. Gruppe.

Session two on Oct. 10 will begin with the collection of Ann G. Sickles that will feature many unique samplers. After the Sickles collection, other auction items will include an American whirligig of a soldier; artwork; a collection of carved whimsy canes and classic antique furniture, including a corner cupboard; 15 tall case clocks; and a baseball signed by the 1932 New York Yankees with signatures from Lou Gehrig, Lefty Gomez and Babe Ruth among others.

The sale will continue with two more single owner collections from Michigan. The first is comprised mainly of New England antique furniture. The second will feature 18th- and 19th-century oil on canvas portraits, as well as miniature portraits, brass pieces, Delft pottery and silver.

The next collection will be from Mr. and Mrs. George P. Bissell Jr. The sale will include a selection of silver, a Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany dining chair, a cigar store Indian and two Schimmel carved birds.

If buyers do not find any full-size furniture they desire, a collection of antique miniature furniture will come toward the end of the sale. The sale will close out with a selection of fine carpets.
