Local Contractors Recognized For Safety Performance

The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the recipients of its 2020 Safety Training & Evaluation Process (STEP) Awards and recognized its 2020 OSHA Partners on Sept. 15 in celebration of National Safety Week.

Representatives from several ABC Keystone member companies virtually attended the ABC Keystone Safety Awards presented by Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman and had the opportunity to hear directly from Dale Glacken, compliance assistance specialist, Harrisburg area office, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The anchor of ABC's Safety Awards program is a national model called STEP. STEP is a safety benchmarking and improvement tool that is designed to improve safety performance among construction industry participants regardless of company size or type of work. The goal of the program is to provide an organized approach to analyze and further develop a company's safety and loss prevention.

Participating companies score their level of achievement for each component on a weighted point scale and document their incident rates (total recordable incident rate - TRIR - and experience modification rate - EMR). Companies receive a recognition level of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Participant based on this data.
