Libraries Plan GOAL Celebration

Nov 14, 2020 - 10:00 am

York County Libraries and PeoplesBank will celebrate first-grade readers from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 14, during the annual Grade One At the Library (GOAL) celebration. The online event will feature GOAL author Anthony Fredericks and ZooAmerica.

This is the first year for Fredericks as the designated GOAL author. Children's authors Tedd Arnold, Will Hillenbrand, Peter Catalanotto, and Lindsay Barrett Georg have preceded him in this role. Each featured author is involved for three years, coming to York to inspire children to read, draw, and learn from the world around them.

Fredericks is professor emeritus of education at York College of Pennsylvania where he taught both teacher education and writing courses. He is the author of more than 160 books. His award-winning children's books include "Desert Night, Desert Day," "A is for Anaconda: A Rainforest Alphabet," and "Tall Tall Tree."

York County Libraries and PeoplesBank started the GOAL program in 2008 to get a library card in the hands of every first-grader in York County. The initiative encourages children and their parents to visit the library to discover the array of books, programs, and resources available.

The family-friendly GOAL celebration is free to attend and is open to the public. Interested individuals can register for the program on the Event Calendar at http://www.yorklibraries.org.
