AFF Plans Peace Tree Project

Thirty-three years ago, the Association of Faculty and Friends (AFF) of Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine began a project known as the Peace Tree, a tree that is decorated with white lights in memory of or in honor of loved ones or people who have made a difference in another's life. The tree represents peace, hope, unity, joy and love.

According to co-chairs Lisa Braccini-Barletta and Michelle Carraher, this year, the Peace Tree will have special meaning as it is on the front lawn of the newly expanded Children's Hospital. For safety reasons, this year the tree will be lighted during a small, private ceremony during the week of Thanksgiving.

Sponsorships for the tree are being accepted. All donors will receive a printed copy of the program which will contain a list of the individuals who will be honored or remembered this year. Donations must be received by Thursday, Nov. 19, for a loved one's name to be included in the booklet. Funds raised by the AFF support this tradition and the mission of AFF, which is to promote medical education, research, clinical care and scholarship and to serve the needs of the community.
