Growing Greener Grants Awarded

Chester County was awarded $902,507 in Growing Greener state grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The grants will fund stream restoration of Plum Run and support projects for forested riparian buffers and implementation of agricultural best management practices, or BMPs, in the county.

The grants were awarded to Stroud Water Research Center Inc. in the amount of $707,818 and Brandywine Red Clay Alliance in the amount of $194,689. The Stroud Water Research Center project will implement 44 agricultural BMPs and 58.1 acres of riparian forest buffers on eight properties, including seven farms, in Chester County, in Phase 2 focus areas of the Delaware River Watershed Initiative. These investments will greatly reduce runoff pollution and additionally assist municipal separate storm sewer system communities so that their overflow is less likely. The Brandywine Red Clay Alliance project will complete Phase 3 of a 4,470-foot stream restoration on Plum Run.
