VanderMey And Team Win Competition

Emily VanderMey, a 2017 Elizabethtown Area High School graduate, was a member of the team that won the IxDA Student Design Charette 2021 competition. Now in its 12th year, this international competition brings together students and early professionals to tackle big challenges in order to address cultures' unmet needs and untapped opportunities.

VanderMey graduated from Point Park University in 2020 and is pursuing a master's degree in interactive design at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

This year's Student Design Charette challenge asked teams to explore the potential for data about individuals to enhance global health and well-being. Participants were challenged to explore issues of global health and well-being, identify interesting or provocative use cases, and use transparent, empowered participation with data to design for the outcomes needed in the 21st-century world. The 2021 competition took place online, giving students the opportunities to work together for a longer period.

Participants received mentoring and a free ticket to the virtual Interaction21 conference. Finalists were selected from an international pool of graduate and undergraduate students, and each member of the winning team earned a cash prize.

VanderMey's team members were Liz Wang from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and Samantha Tung from Loughborough University.
