Sewing Network Plans Meeting

The Lancaster Area Sewing Network will hold its next monthly meeting on Monday, March 22, at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Lincoln, Neb., designer Rachel Andrew will be the guest speaker. She will give a presentation on the process behind her Alexia Rees-labeled children's garments that incorporate quilting techniques in novel ways.

Andrew learned to sew in a home economics class about 30 years ago, but was only casually involved in the pastime until about 12 years ago when her daughter, Alexia, was a toddler. Andrew had always had a love of making clothing, but she had been advised to try quilting, too. After initial protestations, she eventually became curious and began looking at pattern books in her local library. A "crazy nine-patch" quilt caught her eye, and she immediately imagined how it could be turned into a dress.

Since then, Andrew has presented two collections of children's quilted clothing at Omaha Fashion Week and has been featured in the Craft Industry Alliance, Make Modern Magazine, and Homespun Magazine. She is on Instagram (@AlexiaReesDesigns) and on Facebook (@AlexiaRees). Readers may visit http://www.alexiarees.com as well.

Guests are welcome to attend the March 22 meeting for a small fee. For information, interested individuals should send an email with their phone number to lancastersews@gmail.com by Monday, March 15.
